6/2 traditional media and alternative media

     Today we did research on the Israel-Palestine conflict using different types of media. Half of the class did research using traditional media such as New York Times, Daily Telegraph and Haaretz(Israeli newspaper) and the other half of the class did research using alternative media. I did research on the traditional media, and I got the impression that most media were supporting Israel. This might be because there were paywalls and I couldn't read the whole article, or because I lack the ability to recognize biases. I did research using Haaretz, and at first, I thought this media was an anti-war newspaper because there was an article titled "For Jewish-Muslim Dialogue Groups in America, Gaza War Shatters Dream of Coexistence". However, in this article titled "Opinion | Arundhati Roy Is Really Wrong About Hamas", Haaretz criticises Hamas very strongly. Also in there was an article titled "Opinion | The Left Feels Palestinian Pain. It Must Also Recognize Jewish Fears" (I think pain is worse than fear though).

    The people who did research on alternative media told us that the US was giving Israel billions of dollars annually, and also told us that Israelis kill Palestinians who have a mental illness. It is difficult to correctly grasp the whole picture of the Israel-Palestine conflict because both media are definitely biased. Looking at the newspapers of both sides makes me confused more and more because I'm not sure how much I'm being influenced by the biases.

5/6 The Hobbit chapter 19

Chapter 19 - The Last Stage Bilbo was now at Rivendell.  He had not been home for over a year.  At Riverdell, he and Gandalf rested and told their stories to Elrond. Then Gandalf confesses where he had been when he was not with the dwarves. He was at the great council of the white wizards who had driven the Necromancer from Mirkwood. The Necromancer was actually Sauron, the evil lord that appears in "the Lord of the Rings" as the main antagonist. Then they left Rivendell. They went past the river where they were captured by three trolls and dug up the box of treasure they took from the trolls. Bilbo was surprised when he got back to his hobbit-hole. Bilbo was presumed dead, and his belongings were being sold at an auction. He stops the auction and gets his things back from other people, but he lost his reputation as a good hobbit. 5/6 The Hobbit chapter 18

Chapter 18 - The Return Journey When Bilbo became conscious again, he noticed that he was alone. He also noticed that his side has won the battle. A man came to the hill to find Bilbo, so Bilbo took off his ring and went to the camp where the people were waiting. Gandalf was happy to see Bilbo alive because Gandalf was worried that Bilbo was dead. However, there was bad news too; Thorin had a fatal injury and was dying. Thorin gave his last words to Bilbo. He said he will give some treasure to Bilbo and take back the words he had said to Bilbo. Of course, Bilbo told Thorin he wasn't angry at Thorin. Then Thorin said, "If more of us valued food and cheer and songs above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world" and passed away. Bilbo turned away and wept; he had a kind soul.
